Two comments:
1) Page 115 of the NEXTSTEP User Interface Guidelines manual
says the order should be:
Info Panel...
(add here)
Show Menus
Preferences...
Help...
2) Please give me the names of all these apps that add items after Help. I
just took a quick look at WM, Preferences, Stuart, Diagram, Edit, Digital
Librarian, Webster, BackSpace, Mail, Preview, CompleteAccess, and WatchMe.
They all follow the guidelines. Stone Design has the order all mixed up in
Create and DataPhile. Mesa and Concurrence have a different order also.
So I would say that your ordering has not become the defacto standard.
Besides, which items you're most likely to want does not govern the ordering
of the menu. If that was the case, I think Print, Hide, and Quit should be
at the top.
I think we should all follow the guidelines as closely as possible to be consisten with NeXT's apps and everyone elses.
